Broos Breaks Down Mosimane’s Coaching Comments
Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, does not believe Pitso Mosimane’s statement that African managers cannot coach European clubs.
Previously, Mosimane – who is now a free agent after his coaching stint with Emirati club, Al Wahda FC, ended last November – claimed that European clubs are reluctant to employ Africans as head coaches.
His statement comes after Rhulani Mokwena – who succeeded Mosimane as coach of Mamelodi Sundowns in 2020 – was touted as a potential candidate for overseas management, particularly in Europe.
In a recent interview with sports reporter Mahlatse Mphahlele, Broos said that African coaches like Mokwena should not have a problem coaching in Europe, so long as they possess the correct credentials.
“[If Mokwena] wants to progress in his profession, I hope he gets the UEFA Pro Licence as soon as possible and gets a chance [in Europe],” the Belgian coach told Mphahlele. “From what I see now from him, I think he can make it, why not?
“I was a little bit surprised that Pitso said in Europe, they don’t want African coaches,” he continued. “It is not about that – it is about your licence. You don’t enter Europe as a coach.”
